Looking for ideas.

I have been considering writing this essay on how I feel that this poem "Harlem" indicates that people, places, and/or things often obscure and for some kills their dreams. Does anyone suggest a better route? I am open to suggestions.

That sounds like a great idea. You could easly write 4 pages from that point of view. My paper talks about how sometimes conditions or situations put dreams on hold. It's only a paragraph in my paper, but I am considering expanding it. I talked about how during WWII many G.I.'s had to put there dreams on hold when they went to fight in the war. I also mentioned that many of them were never able to achieve there dreams.

Well, those are pretty good guys! However, my question to you is how do you interpret this poem? Is it necessarily bad?
Putting your dreams aside may have to do with the fact that it is either unaccomplishable or simply that you wouldn't do good at it, so it may work both ways. For example,
Think of investing for a minute. If you are an investor, you may be considering on certain stocks of your preference; however, actually doing it, will most likely have certain risks you may not be willing to take. Having said that, it is really what you make out of it. Hope you find my view helpful. Good luck on your essay!

I think that is a great idea. I wrote a paragraph about distractions in peoples lives that throw them off track so that their dreams are postponed. I also wrote about a connection to Harlem to todays generation, I also wrote about the importance of having goals and dreams in life.
