Harlem is such an exciting poem, I love it. Although Harlem is short, is crude, profound, real and gets to the point. After briefly, reading Langston Hughes' profile, I can see the anger he had against society because of the time in which he was living, the lack of acceptance towards the black community and therefore opportunities for someone like him. He as the educated, and open-minded man he was, couldn't fit in as a black person, and that made him feel very discouraged at times, I realize. However, he supported his people and wanted to prove the rest of the society that the only thing that set us aside is our color (as when he refers to having rhythm, which he had not bothered thinking about), but that just as whites, blacks have dreams too.
His poetry clearly reflects among other things, his dreams, anger and perhaps bitterness towards life. What do you guys think about Harlem or how do you interpret it?

Well, the body of your blog does not match with your title at all. You gave the title, Beautifully Full...but throughout your blog you state how angry, mad, bitter, and all those adjectives opposite to the meaning of your title. I'm sort of confused to begin with.
You didn't exactly clarify how profound it was either. It was profound and yet it was crude? How exactly can those two words exist in the same meaning? I get it about the reality...but crude and profound? Hm.
So, as educated as he was...he couldn't help but to be completely angry at his own people and also be only discouraged at times? I still don't know what you are trying to say?
Well...with you I am agreeable about the title...but not agreeable to what you have discovered about this poem and this author respectively.
If you wanna see what I mean...read my post...will post it on Sunday, March 18.
Well, I explain. The poem itself is full of beauty because of its contrast, its profoundity (extent)and its realism. I consider it a wonderful writing.
It is crude, as a tiny piece of life itself. Profound and crude being two different things obviously. May sound a bit ackward because of its bittersweet essence; however, is a wonderful comparison.
He was discouraged by (acording to his biography) his own father though he was still supportive to his own people such as the soldiers and others.
I suggest you read it again, you may be able to see it from a different perspective.
