I saw this written as a comment:
"I think Bill mention that we need to defend our partners; however, if your group's debate is good, result of the argument won't reduce your point."
This is regarding the debates...what exactly does this mean? Can someone elaborate for me? Bill?

Debate grades will be given to individuals, just like any other grades in this class. However, debaters will be graded according to how well they operate as members of a team. No one can really help the person who's speaking directly, since one person speaks at a time. And since the instructor cannot really know who on the team did which research, there's no way to grade the research directly.
However, members of the debate team will defend their team's arguments. That doesn't mean one's grade goes up or down depending on how well the team does; it means one's grade goes up or down depending how well one does for the team.
...for the sake of..doing it right. How can we become even more clear on the procedure? Aren't there usually 2podiums up? Do you have any on tape that we may learn the proper way of rebuttal? Otherwise, it just might be a disaster...not to mention what these mistakes might do to the order of our speech and the grades we might yield from it.
I saw a laments version of this procedure...on network t.v. It wasn't what I thought it would be. There were 2podiums where 2people were up there taking turns with rebuttals & speeches. It looked rather effective…how they did it. But we are taking turns on the podium…how are we going to argue?
